Open Work Permit is the “most-wanted” type of work permit because it gives you more freedom, allowing you to work anywhere in Canada, for any employer, in any occupation.

Unlike LMIA-based work permits, it does not restrict you to work for a specific employer.

Who is eligible for an Open Work Permit?

Only certain groups of people are able to apply for an open work permit. Some of them include:

  • participants in Working Holiday Program

  • spouses/common-law partners of international students studying full-time at a Canadian designated learning institution

  • spouses/common-law partners of foreign skilled workers

  • participants in immigration pilot programs

  • permanent residence applicants whose application for permanent residence has been deemed received and complete and their current work permit is about to expire
