Open Work Permit is the “most-wanted” type of work permit because it gives you more freedom, allowing you to work anywhere in Canada, for any employer, in any occupation.
Unlike LMIA-based work permits, it does not restrict you to work for a specific employer.
Who is eligible for an Open Work Permit?
Only certain groups of people are able to apply for an open work permit. Some of them include:
participants in Working Holiday Program
spouses/common-law partners of international students studying full-time at a Canadian designated learning institution
spouses/common-law partners of foreign skilled workers
participants in immigration pilot programs
permanent residence applicants whose application for permanent residence has been deemed received and complete and their current work permit is about to expire
