If you are not eligible to become a permanent resident of Canada through any of the immigration programs, you may still apply on humanitarian and compassionate grounds, if your circumstances are exceptional.

The significant factor that the government looks at when assessing humanitarian applications is the best interest of any child involved. In addition, the reviewing officer will also consider:

• how settled you are in Canada

• your family ties to Canada

• what could happen to you if your application is rejected
